Daniel 2:24
HE’S BARELY AWAKE but still he rolls
over and pushes his body, his skin, into
yours, his belly against your back, you move
backwards a little, his fingers find yours, he
feels the locked heat beneath these sheets,
this quilt, then your hard-muscled legs shift
and it happens, your feet press into his, and
he notices it again, your toes tapping like
Morse code, he wonders what it is you’re
trying to say, it could be anything, a verbal
arm around the waist, but it could also be
another, a hand on the shoulder, a warning,
you might want to send him back to where
he’s been before, and so here it is: what
words are on your lips, the lips he’d kiss if
you were facing him?
